White elephants to antiques, textile art to fine art, and Mid-Trail dining to lefse-making lessons will all be up for grabs at the annual Mid- Trail Property Owners Association flea market, boutique, auction, and quilt raffle to be held at the Schaap Community Center on Wednesday, August 10. Opening time is noon.

Treasures at all price points will be available at one of the most eclectic flea markets you’ll ever visit. This event offers cabin décor, garage extras, household items, and a host of one-of-a-kinds. The boutique features beautifully crafted textile art, ceramics, necktie purses, and many opportunities to begin your holiday shopping.

Bidding on auction items will be lively and fun, and is again being called by Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Michael Valentini. Whether you are in the market for a hand-made book in the Swedish tradition, a collection of vintage and artfully hand-crafted quilts, framed wildlife art, or a lefse-making lesson with an old pro, you’ll find a wide variety of donations from local businesses and residents to bid on.

Of special note is a quilt made by Mid-Trail resident Carol Stockman called “The Thin Red Line.” Its design honors all current and fallen firefighters, and is uniquely appropriate for this event, which donates proceeds to our local fire department.

“Gunflint Rocks and Waters,” the theme for this year’s raffle quilt, is sure to remind the lucky winner of the beauty of the Gunflint Trail. Again crafted by the Mid-Trail Quilters, this effort follows a long tradition of making a quilt to benefit the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Raffle tickets are available at local businesses and at the event. Drawing for the quilt will be at the conclusion of the auction.

So if you need stocking stuffers or even a stuffed mounted pheasant, drive 26 miles up the Gunflint Trail to the Schaap Community Center at Fire Hall #1. Homemade cupcakes, lemonade, and coffee will keep you going as you browse, shop, and bid, keeping in mind that all proceeds benefit our local volunteer fire department and the Chik Wauk Museum and Nature Center.
