On the Thursday, April 21 edition of Native Report on WDSE-WRPT PBS 8, Grand Portage photographer Travis Novitsky will be featured. Tune in at 8:30 p.m. to learn more about this talented North Shore photographer.
Novitsky is familiar to most of Cook County. A life-long resident of the North Shore of Lake Superior, he was born in Grand Marais and is an enrolled member of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. A self-taught photographer, his nature-inspired artwork is on display, or has been, at a number of local galleries and has graced numerous publications.
Many of these photos are of his Grand Portage home, which is surrounded by miles of lakes, rivers, Boreal forests and mountains. Novitsky expands his portfolio with visits to the canyons of Arizona; he also captures the beauty of the Pacific Northwest Coast.
Also on the program will be editor and noted author Heidi Erdrich who has gathered and sorted stories from across the nation on what it means to be a woman and how this may be complicated by the Native American experience in Sister Nations and Jodi Gillette, the Deputy Associate Director for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. According to Native Report, Gillette is the conduit between Indian Country and the White House.
