. Central Gunflint Ski Trail Report for 12-19: To date, approximately 47km out of the 70km trails are groomed with a skate lane and classic track. Groomed trails include Beaver Dam, Upper Ridge Run, Summer Home Road, Campground Loop, Moose Pasture, Ox Cart, Bearcub, Red Pines, and sections of Logging Camp, Deer Mouse, and Wolf Point. The remainder of the trails is packed and will stay that way until we receive a bit more snow. What has been groomed and tracked is in good shape. There is minor stubble in some areas yet.
For the most up to date grooming information, as well as specific trail conditions, please contact Golden Eagle Lodge (1-800- 346-2203) or Bearskin Lodge (1-800-338-4170). Central Gunflint Ski Pass required.
. Gunflint Lodge reported on 12-21 that their cross country ski trails are packed, but they are waiting for more snow so they can set tracks. “Cross country skiers have been out on the trails and say they are fine,” said Mindy Fredrikson. “But they need to watch for rocks in places.”
. Sugarbush Trail Report: The Onion River Road is groomed for classic and skate skiing. All of the other trails have been rolled.
. Norpine: The Hall-Massie, Cascade, and Deeryard Trail system have been cleared of downed trees and packed. There are no tracks set (as of Dec. 17), but cross country skiers can enjoy a ski around Deeryard Lake. The trail is still wet in places. Hopefully, tracks can be set on much of Deeryard by Christmas Eve.
. Grand Marais Area Trails: These include the Bally Creek ski trails, Pincushion Trails and George Washington Pine ski trails. Bally Creek Trails were packed on December 20, and Dave Williams is waiting for a little more snow to fall before he grooms. Pincushion and George Washington are packed, and plenty of skiers have been on the trails, but watch out for rocks and wet spots in places.
.Downhill skiing: With four mountains, 95 runs and the new high-speed eight-passenger gondolas in service, plus $9 million invested in snowmaking equipment, Lutsen Mountains is open for business. Currently, three of four mountains are open and 20 primary runs ready, but with snow in the immediate forecast and nightly snowmaking, more runs will open soon.
