Townships work well together

Since the early ’80s, when the townships of Lutsen Tofte and Schroeder were brought back into existence, remarkable things have been accomplished.

Lutsen has acquired Lake Superior shoreline and is providing a picnic pavilion, volleyball court, and playground for the public. The fire department and EMS are professional and well equipped and well trained. There is a fire station and public meeting space for the community.

Tofte has upgraded and improved its public park and offers Lake Superior to all. The Fire Department and EMS are trained, equipped and continue to serve. Tofte supports a fishing museum to honor the heritage of the North Shore. Tofte owns the Birch Grove Center and improved the property with about $1 million in the county’s 1 percent local option sales tax money.

Schroeder maintains a Lake Superior access and Father Baraga Cross historical site. The Town Hall and Fire Department accommodate community needs. The Schroeder Heritage Center is owned by the town and maintains its heritage. The town provides roads to areas not served by others.

Together, the three townships have worked together to form the LTTA which promotes the tourism industry, worked to build and support Superior National Golf Course, support the Birch Grove School and Community Center, support trail systems and together have accomplished great things in a short timeframe for the betterment of the whole.

On March 10, at 8 p.m., we have an opportunity to continue sound growth and community investment. YES, we pay with our taxes. The money we pay is directly spent in our community for our immediate and long-term benefit.
