Townships must support one another

I read with interest your July 25 issue and the article West End Townships question Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association. I would like to correct a possible misconception.

My understanding, from reading the article, is that people in Tofte and Schroeder Townships feel the need to withhold money collected through the lodging tax in order to pressure the LTTA to keep its office in Tofte rather than moving it to Lutsen. I have the feeling that there are people in Tofte and Schroeder who suspect Lutsen Township officials of scheming to move the LTTA office to Lutsen.

The Lutsen Township Board has not discussed the possibility of such a move and I, for one, agree with the Tofte and Schroeder township board members that the LTTA officeshould remain in Tofte or relocate to Schroeder, if it has to move at all.

Schroeder, Tofte and Lutsen are the only townships in Cook County. We need to support each other by using public money, collected through the lodging sales tax, to promote tourism without favoritism.

Lutsen Township Board
