Schroeder now has a write-in candidate for township clerk in the March 10 election. Anna Green has agreed to run for the position to replace retiring clerk Doug Schwecke and will take the position if elected. No one filed for the office during the nomination period so the spot is vacant on the ballot.
That completes the list of candidates for the March 10 elections in Lutsen, Schroeder and Tofte, the three townships in Cook County. Residents may cast their votes from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10. After the polls close, residents get to take part in the annual township meetings where they hear about the financial position of their local government and take part in the planning for the 2021 budget and tax levy.
Each of the towns has offices on the ballot, but except for two write-in positions, the only contested race is in Lutsen.
The candidates and contests
Lutsen – Lollie Cooper is challenging incumbent Supervisor Andrew Beavers for the three-year term on the town board. Colleen Brennan is the sole candidate for the one-year term as supervisor. Sharon Hexum- Platzer is running for re-election as town clerk. Ashley Van Doren is the only announced candidate running as a write-in town treasurer to complete a one-year term.
Schroeder – Rick Anderson is running for re-election for the three-year term as Supervisor. Anna Green is running as a write-in for town clerk.
Tofte – Both incumbents are running for re-election unopposed. Supervisor Craig Horak is seeking another three-year term and Clerk Kay Burkett is running for a two-year term for the position she was appointed to last May.
The three Cook County Townships hold annual elections each March to elect their five officials: three Supervisors, a Clerk and a Treasurer. The supervisors serve three-year terms, with one elected each year. The other officials serve two-year terms, elected in alternate years.
