In a tourism community, customer service is everyone’s job, whether it is giving helpful directions to a visitor, knowing where someone can snowshoe and ski, or being patient and courteous with slow-moving summer traffic.
Tourism development as a community endeavor will be the focus of At Your Service on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Cook County Higher Ed’s North Shore campus, 300 W. Third St., Grand Marais; and Thursday, Dec. 15, from 8 a.m. to noon at Lutsen Resort, 5700 W. Highway 61, Lutsen.
Extension Educator John Bennett will lead the workshops, which are held in collaboration with the Cook County Visitors Bureau. The workshops are free and open to the public.
In the At Your Service workshop, Bennett will help participants understand how culture affects the tourist experience; learn how to manage their own attitude; practice skills to identify and respond to customer and tourist needs; gain strategies to create and maintain positive customer experiences; and create a personal action plan to put these skills to work immediately.
Maggie Barnard, events manager at the Cook County Visitors Bureau, will give a short presentation on winter activities and events and the information resources available through the visitors bureau.
To sign up for the workshops, email highered@northshorecampus.org or call 387-3411. To facilitate planning, register by Monday, Dec. 12.
