Twelve hikers gathered at the Eagle Mountain parking lot on Friday, July 10. They were part of the Tour de Fox, a 14,000-mile cross-country journey benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Community members joined endurance athlete Sam Fox (no relation to Michael J. Fox), who is biking and hiking his way across the United States to raise $1 million for Parkinson’s research.

Sam Fox was joined on the 7-mile round-trip hike up Eagle Mountain by Grand Marais Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux and Visit Cook County Executive Director Linda Kratt, as well as area visitors from Duluth, Grand Rapids and Eagan.

Sam’s inspiration for these charitable endurance feats is his mom, Lucy, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000.With hikes planned for all 50 states, Eagle Mountain was Sam’s 30th stop.

As the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s research, The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to accelerating a cure for Parkinson’s disease and improved therapies for those living with the condition today.

According to Kratt, Tour de Fox has raised over $600,000 so far, and will receive a $750,000 matching grant if they reach the million-dollar mark by Sept. 12. For more information, visit www.michaeljfox.org.
