Community members gathered on Saturday, August 24 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tofte Historical Society. The historical society has accomplished a lot in its 20 years, with the development of the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum and its many interesting exhibits. The celebration included the return of the Viking fishing boat, which had been donated to the historical society by the Sve family. The boat was deteriorating because of the weather and Walter Sve took it home until a shelter could be built. While he and his son restored the historic fishing boat, the fishing museum commissioned a Norwegian style structure, a grindbygg, to protect the boat. Walter and Floyd Sve were at the celebration to share some interesting stories of growing up in a fishing family—although Floyd let Walt do most of the talking!
