This brief letter is a “thank you” to both the editorial board and Garry Gamble, in particular. For the most part, I have agreed with the philosophical, theoretical, and political slant that Mr. Gamble represents. At times I have disagreed with certain elements of his column. However, that is the very point of this thank you: the tension he provided with his viewpoint is the essence of journalism, and I applaud you for that provision. The moment our mass media and societal thinking becomes monolithic, our democracy is weakened, and America’s uniqueness suffers. May the marketplace of variegated thought flourish.
