Cook County News Herald

To: Governor Waltz

I am writing this letter as one of the largest employers in Grand Portage Minnesota, Ryden’s Border Store & Duty Free. I am reaching out to you with extreme concern as I have lost faith that our Northern Border will open this September 21st as it should!

We had been cautiously optimistic about a June 22nd US border opening, allowing Canadian’s entry into the United States, via land (they can fly!) We were disappointed to find out we (US Government) made a late agreement with the Canadian Government post phoning our opening. Our Canadian neighbor’s showed good faith on August 8th by opening US travel into their country. We on the other hand are shutting out a population and Allie who are organized, lawful and highly vaccinated. We have been forgotten!

It is imperative to my business and others to get some kind of opening. I urge you to fight for our small communities as if you lived here. We understand our voting block is not a game changer for your future, but how you represent us is going to affect our futures dramatically.

I enjoyed watching the Minnesota Golden Gophers take on Ohio State in front of 60,000 screaming, excited fans. Then it hit me, 60 thousand fans ALLOWED to go to an event and celebrate. The last time I heard from you was yesterday via email asking for campaign donations as you were upset about some law that passed in TEXAS! TEXAS…I then realized we have NO representation up here that thin line across the whole Northern States and Border towns! We are in serious need of strong leadership please be that leadership in representing us out of these desperate financial waters! We can open this border safely and at minimal risk to Americans.

Sincerely, Mike and Sam
