Time to sign up for the Tofte Trek

There is still time to train for the 39th Annual Tofte Trek 10k run/walk that will be held July 4, 2017 starting at Birch Grove School in Tofte.

The annual Tofte Trek was started by local outdoor enthusiast Jan Horak and has grown into a signature event of the Tofte 4th of July celebration. Run or walk the 10k (6.2 miles) distance through the beautiful Superior National Forest on ski, hiking and snowmobile trails.

Tofte Trek is noted for having a supply of mud along the way, giving participants a “badge of soil” to show their hardiness. T-shirts are given to the first 200 participants of the 10k run/walk. There is also a 1-mile run and kids races for all ages 4 and above.

Same day registration opens at 7:45 a.m. at Birch Grove.

Cost to enter the 10k walk or run is $30. The walk starts at 9 a.m. and the run at 9:30 a.m.

Kids’ races for ages 4-12 are free and begin at 9:05 a.m. The kids’ one-mile race starts at 9:20 a.m. and is also free.

Pre-registration is available for $25 on-line until 8 a.m. July 2, 2017 at www.toftetrek.com.

Volunteers are also needed to help with registration, timing, and awards. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, contact sta@boreal.org.
