It’s that time of year again. Time to sign up for the annual Fisherman’s Picnic Trail Run that will be held August 4.
Held on the splendid trails at Pincushion Mountain, there will be races for those of all ages and all abilities.
There will be a quarter mile run for kids, a one-mile run for boys and girls ages 9-10 and 11-12.
Those events will be followed by a non-competitive 3-mile walk (no prizes, no official results) and then a 5-mile race walk that will once again be very competitive.
Topping the list of races is the 5-mile run over the rugged terrain that will test even the best of runners.
Chris Hegg, the indomitable race director, said, “The trails are mowed and ready, the weather is perfect, and the Fisherman’s’ Picnic Weekend is around the corner. The North Superior Ski and Run Club is sponsoring the Fisherman’s’ Picnic Trail for the 32nd consecutive year.”
Registration costs $25 until Aug. 3. Race day registration is $30 for the 5-mile race walk and 5-mile run. Kids’ races are $10 and there is a $20 entrance fee for the 3-mile walk. All Cook County High School athletes get a free pass to compete.
All of the proceeds from the races are used to support local youth programs that include high school cross country running, Nordic skiing, and track & field.
Registration will be available soon at pincushiontrails.org
