I come from Michigan where caucusing is unknown. We vote twice, in a primary and in the national election. The process for choosing the primary candidates is a complete mystery. Only the elite members of a party had any say in who would run. The caucus process in Minnesota was so revealing to me and a chance to participate in the selection of candidates felt powerful. Never mind you don’t always get your way, still the way to lose is much more obvious.
Learn how many people are running for office. Lots of governors, both senators, many running for U.S. House and we need an auditor, an attorney general; is that all? Come and find out who and what they are running for!
Ask yourself, whom would you vote for, if you could? What resolution would you pass to improve the party or the democracy? How could you make your life better and would it also help your neighbors? Maybe you just want to see what others are thinking and why. Go to observe, but go.
I will be at caucus and I hope to see you, too.
