It’s that time of year for the annual Gunflint Mid-Trail auction and fundraiser to be held at the Schaap Community Center on Wednesday, August 12 from 1 to 4 p.m.

You’ll find hundreds of one-of-akind treasures at the flea market, boutique, quilt raffle, and auction.

This year’s raffled quilt and matching pillow shams, crafted by the many talented hands of the Mid- Trail Quilters reflects a passion many Gunflint Trail travelers share at this time of year. “Blueberry Zig-Zag,” which features blueberry and leafgreen fabric is sure to remind the lucky winner of the Trail’s summer bounty. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10 and may be purchased at local businesses as well as at the event. Drawing for the quilt will be at the conclusion of the auction, and you need not be present to win this lovely queen-size coverlet and shams.

Unusual bric-a-brac, household and unique items, along with books will be located in the flea market, while the boutique will offer many artfully handcrafted pieces, along with great items donated by local businesses and outfitters.

Hosted by auctioneer and volunteer firefighter Michael Valentini, bidding on goods ranging from arts and crafts to antiques, to Gunflint Trail experiences, and even a ride in a fire truck, will be lively, spirited and fun. Keep in mind that proceeds from this event benefit the Gunflint Trail Fire and Rescue Department.

Homemade cakes, along with coffee and lemonade will be available during the fundraiser.

So get out your Christmas and wish lists, and drive 26 miles up the Trail to the Schaap Community Center at Fire Hall No. 1 for an afternoon of fun and treasures, all for a great cause.
