November is the month to be thankful. I am thankful for all the seniors who dressed up for our Halloween party at the center! I am thankful for those people who have already called me to let me know they are going to bake a pie for our pie bingo.
I am thankful for our little ones who come and brighten our day with their smiling faces. I am thankful for the ability to meet new faces in the center and outside the center when I visit folks in their homes. I am thankful for Ann, who prepares delicious meals for us all. I am thankful for my boss, Bev, who has the heart for what she does as director at the center.
Our card display at the Senior Center looks great. We do have Christmas cards in bundles and individual cards – $3, bundle/$50 cards, just in time for the holiday season. Other occasion cards are as available as well. Thanks to all those who helped with this project.
I am still looking for a few more pies for our pie bingo event this month. If you would like to provide one, please give me a call at 218-387-2660.
Now for some excitement! We are having a fundraiser for the Senior Center. This next year our goal is to replace tables and chairs at the center with a few fundraising events. A craft bazaar/luncheon on Saturday, December 2 is our first scheduled event. The craft bazaar will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All proceeds from the luncheon will go to the Senior Center.
Our vendors we have so far: Terry Lewis (glass jewelry/ornaments), Mary Jo Flack (ornaments, fiber works), Kim Nelson (wool mittens, purses, repurposed home items), Hana Senty (soaps and baked goods), John Moos (rock jewelry), Hannah Palma-Laky (pottery), Sharon Hendrickson (Avon), Doris Croft (crochet / knit / ornaments), Hella Bucheim (crafts), more added daily.
Please plan on visiting. If you are interested in helping us serve during lunch, please give me a call at 218- 387-2660. I have two shifts to assist with 11:30-12:30 p.m. and 12:30-1:30 p.m.
The Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about the Cook County Senior Center, courtesy of Programs and Service Coordinator Kim Nelson.
