One day when I was a young child, I was whining at Thanksgiving that it would take forever
for Christmas to arrive. My grandmother told me, “You just wait dear; as you get older time will just fly by.” She couldn’t have been more correct.
As the year winds down it gives us time to reflect. We have many things to be grateful for. It may be for friends, family, health, wisdom, or our beautiful community within which we are fortunate to live.
We have all seen and laughed at the commercials with the line, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”
Regardless of my age, there is a place in the back of my mind that is glad that these devices to summon help exist. No one wants to be lying on the floor for hours, injured, in pain and unable to move or summon help. An emergency phone allows an injured person to request help from a neighbor, First Responders or ambulance.
In Cook County the Senior Center staff handles installation, billing, and maintenance of emergency phones. When the decision is made to install an emergency phone, call Bev or Kristen at the Senior Center at 387-2660. There is no cost to purchase or rent your phone and equipment. There is a monthly charge of $30 for monitoring by the 24-Hour Response Center. The equipment remains the property of the Cook County Senior Center.
TheSenior Center has had a busy and constructive year, with many changes for the better. We have enjoyed many good times with many good people. We hope that you will find time to join us here at the Senior Center in the next year for some good company, good food and fun activities.
Remember the Senior Center is open and welcoming to all of all ages. For a full monthly calendar of events and lunch menu, please stop by the Center and pick up one of our monthly newsletters. The coffee pot is always on and there is always a jigsaw puzzle going.
We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
