The Polar League was loaded with great basketball players this year, so it was especially gratifying to see that only Cook County landed two girls on the all-conference first team with another named honorable mention.

“Having three girls on the all-conference team for the second year in a row is a nice accomplishment. To have two girls on the first team shows the respect that the other coaches have for our girls and the program,” said Head Coach T.J. Super.

Senior Brea Boomer and Junior Ashley Deschampe both earned first team all-conference honors for their tremendous all-around play.

Boomer is near the top of the conference in rebounding points scored and is a tremendous defender.

Deschampe is ranked near the top of the conference in points scored, free throw percentage and three-point shooting. Both are great team players.

Senior guard Ailee Larson made the honorable mention team for her fine all-around play.

“To see Ailee and Brea get the honor shows the hard work and dedication they have put into basketball because neither of them were natural basketball players. They each joined late, in the eighth and ninth grades, struggled at times during their freshman year, and were starting by the time they were sophomores.

“The leaps that they have made are astounding and should be an example to all kids of what hard work can do for you.

“Ashley has been playing basketball for a long time, but she puts in a lot of work, too. She has developed from a young, raw, talented scorer to a real good player and she has become our leading scorer for the last three years.

“All three girls are ‘A’ honor roll kids and leaders in our school and not enough can be said for the example they set for our youth.

“They are a pleasure to coach,” Super added.

Jessica Newman of Barnum was named the conference’s most valuable player. She will join her sister on the UMD basketball team next year. The other two first-team selections were Keely Deadrick, Esko, and Alissa Autio, Floodwood.
