On Sunday, July 3, Cook County Law Enforcement received a call at 4:39 p.m. reporting a three-vehicle accident near Judge Magney State Park. The caller was uncertain if there were injuries. Colvill and Hovland fire departments and First Responders and Cook County Ambulance were paged to respond.
A 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Maya McHugh, 16, of Hovland was traveling east on Highway 61. She attempted to turn onto North Road in front of an oncoming motorhome. The vehicles collided and McHugh’s Blazer spun and ended up in the eastbound lane of Highway 61 where the vehicle was struck by a 2014 Honda Acura 120, driven by a Canadian motorist.
At 4:56 p.m., an emergency responder at the scene informed Law Enforcement that there were no injuries that required medical transport.
The vehicles sustained significant damage. The Blazer was totaled. The motorhome suffered severe damage and the Acura received moderate damage.
Members of the Colvill and Hovland fire departments remained on the scene to ensure the safety of the victims and to manage traffic through the accident site. There was a minor gas leak from one of the vehicles, which was contained. All emergency responders were clear by 7:35 p.m.
McHugh was cited for failure to yield.
