Kevin Robert Thompson, 53, was released from Northeast Regional Corrections Center (NERCC), on November 4, 2011 and will remain on home monitoring for one year as part of his original sentencing. On July 7, 2010, Thompson was sentenced to two years at NERC, earning early release after successfully completing sex offender treatment.
In May 2009, Thompson was arrested for allegedly imprisoning and terrorizing a Grand Marais man at Thompson’s Colvill home for more than eight hours on May 15, 2009.
On May 11, 2010, Thompson admitted to forcibly restraining, terrorizing, and sexually assaulting an acquaintance in May 2009. He pled guilty to a modified complaint of 2nd degree aiding and abetting; 4th degree sexual assault; kidnapping; assault in the 2nd degree; false imprisonment; and terroristic threats.
Thompson could have been sentenced to 7½ years of confinement, however that was stayed under the condition that he serve two years at NERC and successfully complete sex offender treatment. The sentencing required that the time at NRCC be followed by one year local jail time, subject to sentence-to-serve, Huber Law, or electronic monitoring. Thompson must also follow all reasonable requirements; must relinquish all firearms and must register as a sex offender. The activities on his computer will be monitored to ensure that he does not view pornography or solicit or engage in sexual encounters online. Thompson will also be on probation for 10 years.
