Thomas Roy Hustvet


Thomas Roy Hustvet died on July 28, 2020. Tom was born on May 8, 1943, in Ironwood, Michigan. His early years of childhood were spent in Ironwood, Michigan, Brainerd, Minnesota, and Duluth, Minnesota.

Tom attended schools in Brainerd and Duluth, graduating from Duluth Central High School in 1961. He went on to attend both the University of Minnesota – Duluth and the University of Minnesota. He worked in the field of Human Services after college in a variety of positions from Food Stamp Investigator to Director.

Tom served in the National Guard from 1966 to 1972. During this time, he married and had one son, Derek. Later divorced, he lived on the west bank in Minneapolis and then moved to Grand Marais, Minnesota, where he met his wife Marlene. To this marriage came three sons, and as a family, they enjoyed living in multiple communities, making wonderful friendships along the way. For the past 25 years, Tom lived in Waukon, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife Marlene, four sons (Derek, Jacob, Torm, and Ian), five grandchildren (Riley, Elliot, Adelynn, Mikayla, and Brielle), his sister Lynn, and many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents (Thomas and Esther) and brother in-law Mike Kubishak.

Tom is now in peace and will be busy as a strong Muslim playing his fiddle for all who will listen, and running with his beloved dogs, CoCo and General Tso “Genny”.

A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
