Thomas Nelson


 

 

Thomas R. Nelson, 79, of Grand Marais, Minnesota, died on October 21, 2021, in Two Harbors at the Water View Shores Care Center.

Thomas was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on May 4, 1942, to Roy A. Nelson and Joan (Helle) Nelson. He went to school in Chicago and the University of Illinois. Later he moved to Duluth, Minnesota, where he became a regional manager for Sumatoma Corporation, which meant a lot of traveling from there. He moved to Silver Bay, Minnesota, with his three hunting dogs. After a short stint in Chicago, he sold his house in Silver Bay and moved to Grand Marais, Minnesota, to pursue his love for hunting and fishing after some severe medical problems. He spent the last five years in the hospital and care center, where he passed away on October 21 due to complications from Covid.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and brother, Robert A. Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Ingelore (Geissler) Nelson; sons Michael T. (Nikki) Nelson, and Daniel A. Nelson; grandsons, Brian T. (Maya) Nelson, Max and Corey Nelson; brother, Frank (Gayle) Nelson; daughter, Jessica and family; stepchildren, Annette E. Yebba and son, Kyle, Yvonne (Mitch) Henderson and daughter Christa, Sven Eric Geissler and daughter Amara, and various nieces and nephews.

According to his wishes, Thomas was cremated, and a celebration of life will be held next year on his 80th birthday in 2022.
