On Tuesday, June 8, the entire third grade from Sawtooth Mountain Elementary walked to Gene’s Foods to do a math scavenger hunt. What we learned is that a lot of food items are not that expensive. You can buy a lot of food with a small amount of money. Another thing we learned is we did not know most of the prices for the foods we eat every day. But after doing the scavenger hunt we now know more of the prices. We also learned candy costs more than healthier choices. Another lesson we learned is that if you chose to work with a large group it takes longer to complete the math scavenger hunt. Other students who worked in smaller groups found they were able to complete more of the grocery store scavenger hunt.

On Wednesday, June 9, we went on a field trip to the Grand Marais State Bank. First we saw the teller. The teller helps people who go to the bank with their money. Next we saw how the coin counter counts all the different types of coins. Thenwe saw the safe deposit boxes in the vault where people keep their belongings for safe keeping. The last two things we saw were how the drive-thru tubes work and the computer room. It was another fun field trip and we learned a lot.
