Thinking of running for local office? Time to sign up

Although the general election for several county positions is months away, the filing period for these offices begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22 and ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5.

Three Cook County commissioners will be up for reelection. Ginny Storlie in District 5, Jan Sivertson in District 3, and Robert (Bobby) Deschampe in District 1.

Commissioners serve four-year terms.

Deschampe won a special election to fill the term of Frank Moe, who resigned due to concerns about his health.

Both Deschampe and Storlie have announced they will run again.

Also up for reelection are Cook County Auditor-Treasurer Braidy Powers, Cook County Attorney Molly Hicken, Cook County Recorder Dusty Nelms, and Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen.

The filing fee to run for county office is $50. The county filing offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day.

Two supervisor positions are open on the Soil & Water board for District 2 and District 4. The filing fee is $20.
