In this week’s paper is the Energy Matters tabloid, a collaboration between Cook County Local Energy Project (CCLEP) and the Cook County News-Herald (CCNH). The purpose of this effort is to focus on local energy use and conservation in practical ways.
The publication coincides with Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22. It is a day set aside to reflect on the condition and health of our home, planet earth. As members of the most successful and adaptable species on this planet, we have the responsibility of stewardship for this home while we are here. Energy use plays into this responsibility.
Since our individual and thus collective choices matter, it is important to begin and continue the difficult task of changing our energy use. It’s a personal choice. Where can you reduce or change how you use energy? What can you do that works for you? It can be big or small. From driving a more fuel-efficient vehicle to changing to CFL or LED light bulbs, there’s something each of us can do. As an added bonus, reducing energy can also save money.
If you have any energy topics you’d like to see covered or expanded, let the CCNH or CCLEP know.
Happy Earth Day!
