March is the time of year to think green! That is what many residents at North Shore Care Center believe – especially with Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, and the first day of spring coming up!
The month will begin with a Mardi Gras dance on March 8 featuring the North Shore Community Band at 7 p.m. This has become an annual event on Fat Tuesday with great Dixieland jazz tunes, dancing, and colorful attire.
There will be another dance at the end of the month on March 26 with Portage band. Portage performs their classic country music the last Saturday of each month at the Care Center at 6:30 p.m. The community is always welcome to join in the fun!
St. Patrick’s Day festivities will begin on Saturday, March 12 with special fiddle and piano music by Michelle Whaley and Laura Laky at 6 p.m. On March 13 Myron Bursheim will sing Irish folk songs on guitar at 6 p.m. There will be a lunch outing to Cascade Restaurant on March 14 for a real taste of Ireland, and on March 17 an Irish corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served at the Care Center.
There are two other outings in March – lunch at the Senior Center, and a shopping trip downtown for Easter supplies.
The monthly birthday party will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 9 to honor Gert Scott, Byron Whaley, and Audrey Haring. Cake and ice cream will be served at 3 p.m. with piano music provided by Susy Lindskog.
The Lioness Club will host its monthly social for residents on Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m. with desserts and old-fashioned piano favorites by Irene Thompson.
Spring will be in the air on March 20 – the first official day of spring! Let’s hope that March “goes out like a lamb” to give everyone spring fever!
Many thanks to the students from the After School Lounge Program who visit the residents at the Care Center twice a month to help with bingo, play card games, and do community service projects. It has been fun getting to know you!
