The Grand Marais Playhouse is in full rehearsal for another stellar summer schedule of productions bursting with local talent.
The first show of the summer will be The Final Twist. A thriller with more twists and turns than Highway 61. Bob Carter leads the cast as Merlin Foster, a world famous actor who commissions a down-and-out writer, Charlie (Nathan Borka) to write a script for the perfect murder of his wife Eden (Molly Hicken). Is it really just a play he is looking for?
The Final Twist performs June 25 – 28 and July 2 – 5. Tickets are $12 adults ($10 members) and $7 (under 18), $5 members (under 18).
Next on the schedule is an encore presentation of Noel Coward’s comedy, Blithe Spirit. If you missed the extraordinary performances by our Playhouse scholarship winners, David Warren and Evelyn Miller, here is your chance to see them again onstage before they leave us for college. The entire cast will astound you with their high quality performances.
Blithe Spirit performances are July 9, 10 and 12. Tickets $12 adults ($10 members) and $7 (under 18), $5 student members (under 18).
The summer musical will be another don’t miss Playhouse event with a fantastic lineup of local singers. Mark Abrahamson, Hilja Anderson, Kurt Anderson, Diane Brostrom, and Karina Roth with Kay Costello as the pianist. They will perform in Some Enchanted Evening, Themusic of Rodgers and Hammerstein. This stunning collection of compositions places five performers in a theatrical setting — first “backstage,” where the songs are sung as personal interplay, and then “onstage.” While offering the performers an opportunity to explore the songs within their own styles and sensibilities, it offers the audience a glorious parade of genuine hits.
Some Enchanted Evening, the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein performs July 23 – 26 and July 30 – Aug. 2 Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students (under 18). All performance times are Thursday through Saturday, 7 p.m. and Sundays 2 p.m. (except Aug. 2 at 3 p.m.)
