While this whole pandemic flu situation brings feelings that range from frightened to frustrated, I’ve found some positive aspects.
Venice, Italy is one example. Apparently, the water in the canals has cleaned itself due to the absence of tourists and gondola rides. In fact, according to one web site, the water is cleaner than anyone remembers. Waterfowl, fish, even dolphins are returning, although another website refutes the dolphin story. I choose to believe it.
Another cheerful aspect is that teenagers are baking. Yes, my granddaughter has taken to serious baking as, apparently, are many of her friends. Since “social distancing” has thwarted the normal teenage desire to gather in groups and schools as well as athletic programs are closed, the kids are amusing themselves by baking brownies.
Believe it or not, people are taking to good old-fashioned board games. My daughter bought several large jigsaw puzzles and is teaching her ten-year-old son the techniques of “doing’ a jigsaw puzzle.
When I last checked Facebook, a number of couples posted photos of a scrabble board being used and a game of Monopoly being played. Let’s face it, many of the old games were a heck of a lot of fun.
People are also helping each other on Facebook. They are answering requests for hard-to-get items especially the sick and elderly. Groups have formed to help others.
So while, the virus situation is still frightening, at least some good has come out of it.
