The University of Minnesota’s impact is felt state-wide

I’m 270 miles from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, and I still feel the great impact the University of Minnesota has on our Northeast Minnesota communities and our entire state.

The University allows me to be of service to my community and informs me through its research and outreach programs — all accessible online. I help rescue and care for old dogs with resources from the U of M Vet School. I have been a Master Gardener for 7 years and am currently taking the Master Gardener refresher course through University of MN Extension. The U of M’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) website has been a great resource to stay up-to-date on the COVID- 19 pandemic and the great work Dr. Osterholm is doing for our country.

Given the U of M’s immense impact, and the need for a stronger health care system, I urge the state legislature and the governor to fully fund the University of Minnesota. This includes the Duluth Academic Health Center project, which will provide much needed health care education and training in Greater Minnesota.

Funding the U of M is like putting your shoes on every day. You kind of forget about the importance of them, but without them you’d be lost and surely notice. The U of M improves our quality of life through its research and education. We need to keep investing in the U of M, and our health care capacity, so our state grows stronger.
