The Gunflint Trail Canoe Races return to Gunflint Lodge on July 20, 2022, beginning at 4:00 p.m. New this year, and sure to be an attraction, is The Trail Cup, a competition among teams representing lodges and outfitters along the Gunflint Trail. Besides bragging rights, the winning team will receive a specially-made paddle engraved with their name that can be displayed until next year.
Pictured are AnneMarie Martino of Prior Lake, Minnesota, who made the paddle and Chad Kieper, who will oversee the 16 races. Other highlights of the Canoe Races will be supper specialties made by Gunflint Lodge, sales of raffle tickets for a kayak, a paddleboard and a handmade quilt, plus official 2022 Canoe Races t-shirts. An after-Races dance party will be held at the conclusion at Poplar Haus restaurant.
A good time is promised by the Friends of the Gunflint Trail and all funds raised will be donated to the Gunflint Trail Fire Department.
