There was news last week of the “struggle” the county commissioners were having with the levy increase. I believe it, but as we say, “Every little bit helps.”
And then I read on and think what about the big bits that aren’t reported. An outstanding example is the aggregate health insurance cost including staff and commissioners of course. The monthly cost borne by employees is reported to be $100 or less and that of the commissioners the very same $100 per month maximum; $50 for single coverage.
In my experience those are very low numbers across the board. And, the aggregate cost for health insurance to taxpayers for all these folks is not reported. I suggest that county employees under contract enjoy the current largesse and expect a change in the next contract similar to what the commissioners and other non-contract folks will incur immediately as a result of the struggle to bring that levy down.
It could be one part of the solution to the struggle that may be a “little bit..” or more.
