Entering through the Eagle Doors at the Cook County High School on March 9 from 5 to 7 p.m., visitors were greeted with smells of food wafting through the long hall leading to the varsity gymnasium.
School never smelled so good!
The hall was filled with 125 happy ticket holders who had paid $30 to attend the EATS fundraiser at ISD 166.
It had been two long years since the Cook County ISD 166 Education Foundation had put together its top-rated EATS event that was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The music was great, and it was wonderful to have a big community event return,” said Ann Sullivan, one of the EATs organizers that included music by the North Shore Swing Band in the cafeteria.
Besides the fine cuisine and treats donated by area restaurants and food vendors, local businesses and individuals gave the foundation items and gift certificates that were part of the extensive silent auction. Just how much money the silent auction brought in is still unknown.
“We are still calling people who left before the end of the evening who need to pay and pick up gift cards, certificates, and items from the silent auction. So it will probably be a week before we have all the totals,” Sullivan said.
The Cook County School #166 Education Foundation holds EATS. Formed in 1999, CCSDEF, a 501(c)(3) foundation, was explicitly created to provide staff an avenue to seek funding for exceptional educational opportunities that the school district could not fund. The foundation has raised well over $100,000 for student extracurricular activities like Robotics, Knowledge Bowl, and Timber Framing classes held at North House, etc.
