En garde! The pressure was on late this summer when artists gathered for the 9th Annual Plein Air Painting Competition on the shores of Lake Superior.
Hosted by the Grand Marais Art Colony, dozens of accomplished artists combed the shores, set up their easels and created their masterpieces. WDSE•WRPT cameras and crew were there to capture the action for The Plein Air Brush Off! on The PlayList.
The program featuring these artists in Grand Marais airs Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m. on PBS North.
It was a race against the clock and there was a call for good weather from artists as they begin their work on Artist Point in Grand Marais. With a blank canvas and dueling brushes, adventurous artists are given just 90 minutes to create a winning masterpiece. Raw materials include oil and watercolor paint; pastels and passion. It’s a fastpaced imaginative competition that pushes artists to the brink of frustration, yet it also inspires quick, efficient creative brilliance. Don’t miss this PBS North program!
