It’s become a holiday tradition. Papa Charlie’s Tavern & Stage in Lutsen is hosting The New Standards 8th Seasonal Holiday Show on Friday, Nov. 28. “It’s a treat to preview the show before it debuts in Minneapolis and Lincoln Center in New York,” said Jim Vick, marketing director at Lutsen Mountains. “With more than a dozen musicians, it is quite an extravaganza for our stage.”
Vick shared a short blurb from the Minneapolis Star Tribune about last year’s holiday show: “This year’s New Standards holiday show at the Fitzgerald Theater is richer, nuttier and unbeatably more satisfying than Aunt Martha’s fruitcake. With an emphasis on the nuttier.”
The New Standards (TNS) is a trio of friends that’s been performing together since 2005 and continues to put on a great show for all age groups. “Each year, TNS friends and their family head to Lutsen for some fun in the snow, and to share their new annual show in the intimate setting of Papa Charlie’s.
“Papa Charlie’s has concert capacity for 600 and has been host to such music greats as Little Feat, Richard Thompson, and BoDeans,” said Vick.
Started in 2005 as an offshoot between Minneapolisbased musicians and friends Chan Poling (piano), Steve Roehm (vibes) and John Munson (bass), TNS now performs around the world, and has generated CDs, videos, cartoons, and other projects.
TNS will perform their holiday show in Minneapolis Dec. 5-6 at the State Theatre, but only a few tickets remain. Vick recommends heading to Lutsen to ski and to take in The New Standard’s first show of the 2014 holiday season at Papa Charlie’s.
