The Great Place Project: What’s your great idea?

One of the projects selected for funding in last year’s Great Place Project was this Little Free Library on West 5th Street in Grand Marais. Year 2 of the Great Place Project is here–are you ready with your great idea?

The Cook County Chamber of Commerce and the Moving Matters project of the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic are continuing this mini-grant program and are seeking applications for the 2015 Great Place Project. Seed grants of $250-$1,000 will be available to organizations and businesses in Cook County and Grand Portage that have a compelling plan to use high-impact and low-cost ideas to make a place great.

What makes a Great Place? A place that is inviting, beautiful and catches the eye. A Great Place encourages people to slow down and spend time there. A Great Place reflects the unique character and identity of the community. Sixteen projects were funded in 2014, from public art to benches to Little Free Libraries. For the 2015 round of mini-grants, there will be priority given to projects that are located throughout the county and Grand Portage. Projects that enhance the Highway 61 corridor through Grand Marais will also receive extra consideration.

The application is available online at www.becausemovingmatters.org or at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic front desk during business hours. Deadline for applications is March 31. For more information, contact Maren Webb at 218-387-2330 x110.
