The North Shore Music Association announced this week that C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band will be appearing at 7:30 p.m. the Arrowhead Center for the Arts on Saturday, August 18.
C.J. Chenier is widely regarded as one of zydeco’s best singers, musicians and live performers. The Boston Globe calls him “the crown prince of zydeco” and extols the way he “attacks the accordion with the tension and drive of James Brown…creating contemporary, turbo-charged dance music.” Living Blues magazine named C.J. Chenier “the best living zydeco singer and accordionist.”
Regardless of what he’s playing, Chenier infuses every song with strong, soulful vocals and skillful accordion playing. His music has always embraced the traditions of his famous father, zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, but he continues to push the music to new levels. Born and raised away from the Louisiana bayou in the housing projects of Port Arthur, Texas, C.J. was aware of his father’s music but also had other tastes, including James Brown and Funkadelic, John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
Don’t miss this amazing concert by the man who Billboard magazine describes as “the heir to the zydeco throne.”
Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students (18 & under). They are on sale now at www.tix.com or at the door.
