That’s the way the cupcake crumbles

The cupcake has fallen!

At 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012, the snow sculpture created in Harbor Park about two weeks prior by Grand Marais artist Ray White of Grand Marais toppled to the ground. Employees and patrons of Blue Water Café had been watching the effects of the warm winter weather out the window to see who would win a bet on when exactly the cupcake would go down.

Did it fall by itself or did it get some “help”? According to server Becky Eckel, there were “no rumors of violence.”

In the end, the kitty that had been building 25 cents at a time to over $18 will benefit the Cook County Food Shelf. No one had guessed within a day of February 18.

It was all great fun, though. Jamie Ryan, who had started the whole thing off with fellow employee Lois Suck, said, “Hope we can do it again next year!”

In last week’s story about the cupcake in the Weekly Weather section of the Cook County News-Herald, Lois Suck was mistakenly referred to as Lois Pederson, her previous name. The News-Herald apologizes for the error.
