Thankful for the staff at the YMCA

The dedicated and tireless management team at the Cook County YMCA deserve a big round of applause for doing a remarkable job in keeping “The Y” up and running over the past several months. Coping with the many pandemic-caused disruptions and difficulties — including full and partial closures; staff shortages; absences and turnover; having to adjust and re-adjust programming and schedules; and keeping the guests apprised of the many changes — has been an immense challenge. The team rose to the occasion by putting in long hours and keeping a persistent can-do attitude.

The Y is a cheerful community hub, and tremendous asset for Cook County and Grand Marais. It serves its membership along with the many tourists and guests who pass through and are surprised and delighted with the facility and its offerings. The entire staff deserves credit for its continued success, but the core team of Emily Marshall, Betsy Blaisdell, Karen Runkle, and Mary Curry merit a special shout-out. Well done!
