I was both thrown back and uplifted when I saw the story of the death of my grandson, “Little John,” in the July 7 “Down Memory Lane” column.
This is a horror my family carries every day. Sometimes I wonder how we can still come back here every year. The answer is always This Place. The endless forest, the rivers, lakes and the blue sky all receive equally our shouts of anger, tears of sorrow and the joy of shared memories.
Little John’s life and death have deepened our North Woods roots.
Thank you for remembering.
