Tennis tournament will go on despite construction

The Grand Marais Fisherman’s Picnic Tennis Tournament will begin Wednesday, July 29 at the high school tennis courts and continue through Sunday, Aug. 2. Due to court reconstruction there are only two courts available this year. Consequently, the adult tournament will be doubles only. There will be consolation matches as court availability permits. There will be Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles offered in Open and 50 and over divisions. There will be no 65 and over division.

The youth tournament will be Boy’s and Girl’s Singles: two divisions (16s and 12s). There will be no doubles events. There will be a consolation round for first-round losers.

Players are asked to arrive at the courts 45 minutes ahead of scheduled time; the maximum number of events is four per entry. Entry deadlines for all events are July 22 (juniors) and July 23 (adults).

For more information and/or entry forms, go to the CCTA website at www.cookcountytennis.org or contact John Muus at (218) 387-2198, or jcmuus@boreal.org.

On Saturday between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., the CCTA will host an ice cream social for all players, their friends and families.
