Tennis season is relatively short on the North Shore, officially starting on May 4 and running through September, so grab a racket and get to the Cook County Tennis Courts while you can. The Cook County Tennis Association offers programs for all ages and every skill level.

Adult programs run six days a week. Adult Beginners and Intermediate players can come to POP Tennis Drop-in Tuesday/Thursday from 10am-12pm. Here beginners can work on some fundamentals and connect with other players of similar skill level.

Adult Intermediate and Advanced players have two options: 1) Monday/ Wednesday/Friday from 9:30am-12pm and/or; 2) Tuesday/Thursday from 6-8pm.

There are three social doubles events, sponsored by Java Moose, which is good fun. You’re constantly changing partners so you can meet a lot of people and hit a lot of balls. And winners take home Java Moose prizes. The next event is July 17 at 10am.

But maybe you prefer the fast-growing sport of pickleball? Unlike tennis where you really need some kind of instruction to be competent, pickleball is something people can usually just pick up. CCTA offers Drop-in Pickleball. Monday through Sunday, 9AM-12PM you can head to court three for some fun but stay out of the kitchen.

Tennis is a lifetime sport. I’ve seen five yearolds rally. I’ve seen ninetyyear olds still getting after it. It’s never too late to start. It’s never too early to either. So what are you waiting for? You can find the schedule of tennis activities here: ccta.clubexpress.com/
