The Evelyn and Arnold Flaten/ St. Olaf Work Camp Scholarship was again awarded to Taryn Manthey- Logan of Grand Portage. Taryn is a three-time recipient of this scholarship, which is part of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hovland educational mission for its members who attend St. Olaf College in Northfield.
The college is one of the nation’s premier liberal arts institutions rooted in strong Lutheran faith tradition.
Taryn begins her junior year with major studies in sociology and environmental education. This year’s award was $4,000.
Ham Muus is the president of the scholarship committee, with Pastor Kris Garey, Jurine Schellberg, Kathi Johnson and Dianne Pelto. The scholarship places emphasis on first-year students. Taryn’s initial award was for $8,000 her first year. She has since received $4,000 for her sophomore year, and now $4,000 for her junior year.
Taryn is the daughter of Jon and Dana Logan of Grand Portage.
