Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland has a long history of interest and support of its educational mission both at home and abroad. One dynamic expression is the Arnold and Evelyn Flaten/St. Olaf Work-Camp Scholarship Fund.
According to Ham Muus, a major grant of $5,000 was recently awarded to Taryn Manthey Logan, who is in her senior year at St. Olaf majoring in environmental studies and sociology. At St. Olaf, Taryn is an active campus leader and honors student. She represents Cook County, Grand Portage, and Trinity Lutheran with distinction, said Muus.
Over a decade ago, the Howard and Edna Hong family established this scholarship in support of Trinity students who chose and are admitted to St. Olaf College. Members of the Trinity parish contributed as well to support and extend the Fund.
Taryn is a 2010 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Jon and Dana Logan of Grand Portage.
St. Olaf College attracts some 3,100 students from around the world as part of the faith-based Lutheran liberal arts tradition.
