Cook County Higher Education is pleased to work with Robert Pratt, Ph.D. in offering the study skills course Taking the High Road. This multi-session program is based on the book The Academic Warrior: Becoming a Purposeful Learner and begins on Wednesday, February 5. This program helps participants of all ages learn the characteristics, study skills and strategies of a successful student, and how to apply them to studies and everyday life.
The program emphasizes several different skills and how to develop the proper mind set. These include:
. Study strategies, reading textbooks, note taking and test preparation.
. Finding the right attitude, staying focused, time management, planning, applying grit to rigorous studies and situations .
. Mental preparation, activating memory for rapid learning and retention, self-testing.
Current students will practice by applying these skills “hands-on” to their studies.
This interactive and engaging course is being taught by Robert Pratt, Ph.D., a retired education professor and college student counselor. Classes are offered on Wednesdays, beginning February 5 and run from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. at the North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.
Participants can take one session or attend all six. The cost for all sessions is $40. Scholarships are available. The course fee includes a free copy of Dr. Pratt’s book The Academic Warrior: Becoming a Purposeful Learner.
