Take a step forward and join Happy Hikers 2021

If you are interested in getting some exercise, exploring new places and making new friends, then the Happy Hikers Club is for you.

The purpose of the group is to build community and get out and enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings here on the North Shore and the Gunflint Trail.

This year there is a nice lineup of 13 hikes planned, beginning July 7, and ending September 29.

Hikes will be on Wednesdays.

“We will meet at 9 a.m. at the YMCA east parking lot by the tennis courts,” said Carol Morgan. “We’ll carpool to the trailheads, hike for 2-4 miles, and enjoy a picnic lunch together. Due to the uncertainties surrounding COVID, we have not planned any lunches at restaurants this year. The hikes are of varying difficulties. Hikers should assess their physical ability to do the hikes, and all will be required to sign a liability form prior to each hike. A description of each weekly hike will be posted in the Community Calendar of the newspaper, as well as on the Boreal website, Visit Cook County website, WTIP radio, along with an email sent to participants.”

Carol Morgen has assumed leadership of the group this year, and she would like to thank Lynn Barringer, Barb Backlund, Ellen Cooke, and Diana Hirsch for their help in planning and organizing all the hikes.

Spread the word, invite your friends. Hikes are open to all. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. For more information or to be added to the Happy Hiker email list, email Carol Morgen at carol@morgen.us.
