The “Take A Kid Fishing” event had another great morning for fishing on Saturday, June 10 at Mink Lake. The rain stayed away and the breeze kept the bugs at a minimum. The event takes place during the annual “Take A Kid Fishing Weekend” for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR). In Cook County, it is a collaborative effort with the United States Forest Service (USFS), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR), Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), and Cook County Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS).

It was a fun-filled event where families went on a boat to fish, children made fish prints, families learned about AIS, kids received goodie bags, and families had a picnic lunch. There were 13 families this year that participated in events. And we had a special guest, Rep. Rob Ecklund, attend. He welcomed everyone at the start of the day and provided some words to start people off fishing. He also helped kids fish and assisted with getting fishing line out of trees.

The morning was filled with fish, smiles, families and fun. Thank you to all the families who came to the event and volunteers who assisted. Thank you also to sponsors Coldwater Foundation and the Clean Water Land and Legacy Fund, and Arrowhead Electric – Operation Round-Up grant.
