Tackling Shakespeare at the Playhouse





 

 

The Grand Marais Playhouse is currently taking applications for the student summer intern program.

High school age students interested in learning about the production elements of theater including set construction, scenic painting, properties, costumes, lighting, sound and stage management are encouraged to apply. Interns are paid hourly. Hours vary and may include afternoon and evening times, dependent upon job and production schedule. Applications can be picked up outside the Playhouse office.

The second Playhouse workshop will be Tackling Shakespeare with Jackson Nickolay and Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux.

Learn how to understand, analyze, and dramatically read Shakespeare in this fun and encouraging class for all levels, Wednesday and Thursday, May 20-21, 7-9 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Cost is $45 (includes both evenings).

Auditions for Eleemosynary will be held on May 27 at 7:30 p.m. There are roles for three women. Sensitive and probing, this masterful play examines the subtle and often perilous relationship between three remarkable women: a young girl, her mother, and her grandmother. Performances will be June 25-28 and July 2-5.

In addition to offering great entertainment, the Grand Marais Playhouse offers training for actors. Jackson Nickolay and Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux will be teaching Tackling Shakespeare on Wednesday and Thursday, May 20-21 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

A preliminary rehearsal schedule will be distributed at auditions. This production will be directed by Jackson Nickolay.

The Grand Marais Playhouse community youth production this fall will be a Shakespeare production. The Playhouse is currently taking suggestions of which Shakespeare play we should do. Final decision will be made by Playhouse board and staff based on community suggestions and available resources.
