Senior Viking Guard Pete Sutton capped off a great senior year by being selected by area coaches to the All-Conference first team Polar Big school squad.
The boys ended their season with five wins and 14 losses.
Pete scored 45 points in the Vikings’ last game in the Section 7 play-off loss against North Woods. That is one of the most points ever scored by a Viking player in one game. Dallas Smith still holds the record. In 1980, Dallas made 26 field goals in one game and still ranks 10th on the Minnesota all-time list with that mark.
During the 19 game season Pete averaged 26.3 points per contest. He was also the Vikings’ floor leader, handing out assists and driving to the basket where the 6’2” guard could finish with a slam-dunk. Pete also led the team in three point shots, with 16 made during the season.
During the season Pete went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. His name will now be on a permanently displayed banner in the gym with the other half dozen boys who have achieved that mark while playing for Cook County.
Just where Pete will play college basketball isn’t known at this time, but certainly, if he wants to, Pete will play somewhere next year.
