In November 2015 the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office received several calls in the Grand Marais area about break-ins to business and residential buildings and vehicles. In an interview with the News-Herald on November 28, Sheriff Pat Eliasen said he couldn’t divulge information at that time because the matter was under investigation. However, Eliasen said, “We are thinking that the suspects are in their teens or at least younger people due to the items that were taken.”
This week the Sheriff ’s Office issued an announcement that Sheriff ’s Office Deputies identified two suspects involved in some or all of this activity, both juveniles.
Eliasen said no other suspects were identified through further investigation and the juvenile suspects are currently being prosecuted by the county attorney.
Recovered stolen items consisted of: computers, firearm, burglary tools and clothing used for concealment.
The sheriff ’s advice back in November 2015 is still applicable. He said, “My advice to the public is to lock their vehicles and don’t leave any valuables inside of them…lock your doors when you are away from your residence and when you are sleeping.”
If citizens notice anyone or anything suspicious, please dial 218- 387-3030 or 911 and report it to law enforcement, said Sheriff Eliasen.
