As I listen to friends, neighbors, relatives, and former coworkers, one of the common conversations revolves around what to do with “stimulus” money received from the government as a result of COVID-19. It goes without saying that food, shelter (whether in the form of rent or a mortgage payment), medication and necessary clothing are priorities. After those expenses are taken care of, we all have bills related to electricity, propane, transportation, insurance, etc., to take care of.
If an individual or family is fortunate enough to have all their necessities covered and is considering spending to “stimulate” the economy, I would suggest spending money locally. Whether using a landscaper, a plumber, an electrician, a painter, a carpenter, or purchasing locally in a “curbside” fashion, spending money to support others who live in Cook County is important! Your dollar goes to a business and then filters to gas stations, grocery stores, and other local businesses that all need support. Think of any project you can afford to let someone else help you with or to do completely. Buy goods locally, not through Amazon!
The world, our nation, Minnesota, and COOK COUNTY are all hurting economically. If you can help your neighbors by keeping your dollars here, for those who are able to work, I encourage you to do so. Your actions today can help our community get through this “tomorrow” in a stronger fashion!
